Heres some context, because OP is a jackass who calls us lazy for not knowing what this is about and therefor not knowing what to research. Keep in mind i'm not a master economist, so some of what I say may be inaccurate, but the general picture is true. (1) GameStop's market value has been dropping for some time now, big Hedge Funds essentially placed bets what this trend would continue. They did this by selling shares of the company that they didn't actually own, but ''borrowed''. Had this trend continued, they could've bought back those shares at a cheaper price later, earning money.

I don’t think the world needs hedge funds and it is really interesting and entertaining to watch but I can only warn you to not invest in GME. This might be the biggest pump and dump ever. On Friday, when the funds have to buy or extend the short, people will become weak and sell (if the SEC doesn’t intervene before). It is a matter of time until GME collapses. If you really want to invest make up a saving plan on a well diversified index-fund / ETF and wait 10 years. I know this will be downvoted as hell but you have to make your decisions by yourselves. A lot of retail investors will loose money on that
